Personal Responsibility ((RP thread with for_loyalty)) [Nov. 24th, 2008|07:12 pm]
It's taken a lot more footwork in the Nexus than he would've liked, what with the LOLs about and certain musclehead mech riders, but he's finally managed to find a place where people said they'd seen Pen hanging out quite a bit. Even after this, it had taken him a bit to push himself that little bit further to actually go to the guy for help to locate the guy he'd tried to kill. But this wasn't about Pen and Grey's stupid little fight, this was about Some, and if Phoenix has learned anything at all in his time in the Nexus, it's that sometimes one had to make compromises morally to get things done.

The person running the hotel Pen was staying at won't give out Pen's room number, so he finds himself waiting in the lobby. Sooner or later, Pen will have to pass through for whatever reason, and that will be the time to corner him. He just hopes he can reign in the urge to clock him first.

MAGIC AND MYSTERY ((Thread with sarah_branigan)) [Nov. 12th, 2008|09:07 pm]
The Wonderbar, though it does serve alcohol, does not give off the appearance of a sleazy place. Rather, it seems to revel in its own eccentricity, showing off pictures of several unusual acts it's booked in the past as well as a generous assortment of musicians. Anything goes here, from ventriloquists to country singers to a trio of old French ladies who played common household appliances.

It's here that Phoenix leads Sarah. The decor, which at one time had given him pause, is something he hardly notices these days. He's gotten to be a real regular here.

"Well, this is the place. Show should be starting soon," he says, sitting down. "Care for a drink?"

RP NARRATIVE: Hey, he actually DOES work from time to time. [Aug. 6th, 2008|05:14 pm]
Phoenix is not, by general inclination, one to go looking for clients. They tend to find him, or he gets dragged to them by Maya, but he rarely looks for them himself. If nothing else, actively looking for clients gives him the air of an ambulance chaser, which he most certainly is not. Furthermore, he's VERY picky about his clientele; he doesn't want to have to take a job where the only way to get someone off is via technicality. If they're so obviously guilty, they should just plead guilty and make a deal for a reduced sentence; otherwise, it's not REALLY justice so much as "blatant system manipulation," and there's plenty of less scrupulous lawyers for that.

More importantly, though, straight-forward cases like that bore him. Three years of strange cases and nearly two years of Nexus later, he's found that he's actively developed a taste for cases where the answers aren't as straight-forward, where the police obviously hurried the arrest for the public's sake, where there is still truth to be FOUND. It's hard to find the case that isn't a strict case of Occam's Razor, but those are the ones he finds much more rewarding.

However, after the information he got last night, he finds he doesn't really have much choice in the matter. Well, that's a lie, he DOES, but he couldn't do it on good conscience. Not that he can really do much about crazy chaotic beings and world invasions, but if he had the information he could at least pass it on to the people who COUNT. Like the people from that world, or someone who can actually handle that sort of thing without using a pen and looking like a total goddamn doof.

So he looks through some of the impending cases for the next few days for criminals who have yet to be represented. It's not a particularly satisfying mix, but he finally finds someone who has just enough unanswered questions to be worth defending. He's not honestly convinced the guy isn't guilty on some level, since there are just enough incriminating details, but it's not his job to doubt, is it? It's his job to believe long enough to find out whether it was worth believing or not. It's a botched robbery, from the sounds of things, but there's a few things he finds odd about the case that intrigues him enough to take it on.

(And on another level, he finds the choice of prosecutor for the case -- one Klavier Gavin -- definitely piques his interest. Hmm.)

He gets up to head to the detention center. Win or lose, he can only do his best.

When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping [RP POST] [Jul. 23rd, 2008|12:41 pm]
There really WAS a Nexus Mall.

Phoenix, in all honesty, wasn't even sure how that could WORK considering the vast types and values of currency across the multiverse, and yet here it was, the ultimate symbol of capitalist culture, right here in the middle of seemingly nowhere. It was an odd mishmash of architecture, to be sure, but there was no mistaking its overall... "malliness." All it needed was a movie theater and -- oh, there it was.

He shakes his head. "Can't believe I never noticed this," he mutters. Still, if any place was going to have videos from all over the multiverse, it would be this one -- and somewhere among them was the possibility of one that could lead them closer to tracking down the location of the infamous Battle Royale.

(Though, to be honest, he's not even that sure he WANTS to watch it if it does exist.)

He turns to Ara. "Uh, so this is the place?" he asks.

Journal Entry: July 22 [PRIVATE] [Jul. 22nd, 2008|12:33 am]
I don't think I'll ever be able to get rid of this memory. It's going to haunt my dreams forever.

And even if I could through some special means, I'm not allowed to. Because if I forget the memory of what happened there, then I'll forget the insanity he's capable of achieving -- and I'll never be able to protect the ones I care about if he decides to take his vengeance against me out on them.

...I wish I could forget.

Journal Entry: July 16 [Jul. 16th, 2008|12:45 pm]
I'd like to apologize to everybody for my disappearance. Seems like no matter how much I wanted to avoid whatever the Nexus was planning, the Nexus decided otherwise. I'm back now, at least, though I've seen a lot of things over this one week that are going to stick in my head for a lifetime. (Christ, I can't believe it's been a week.)

I still have a lot of unanswered questions about the whole thing, to be honest, but I don't think it's going to do me a lot of good to dwell on them. I doubt I'll ever get the answers to those questions at this point anyway. I think I'd rather just move on, get some sleep, and file this under "screw you Nexus."

I still don't know how I lived through all that, but I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. I just hope Novak and everybody else got out okay.

OOC: Some character notes [Feb. 4th, 2008|11:24 pm]
A couple notes about things upcoming for Phoenix:

1. From February 6 through February 10, Phoenix is going to be having his hands full with Case 3-5. This is mainly to alert other Phoenix Wright players. He may have a few little things he posts here and there, but generally he'll be unavailable.

2. As lame as this sounds, Phoenix will begin the process of dropping off canon after this case is over. As cool as Game 4 Phoenix sounds, he's really not the same character at all, and the Nexus makes it remarkably easy to make someone slip off the tracks. This is mostly just a little tidbit for those interested.

Okay, that's all.

MEME: February 2, 2008 [Feb. 2nd, 2008|10:02 pm]
...I can't believe I'm doing this.

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you ask them five questions.

From Maya:

1. How come you're so bad at standing up for yourself? You stand up for everybody else!

Well, that's different, isn't it? I mean, it doesn't matter too much if it's me, but I can't let other people go without somebody to stand up for them. Everybody needs somebody, right?

2. Do you think we can teach my Pokemon any cool tricks?

Er... maybe?

3. You're gonna tell me next time you go off to do something that might get you killed, right?

Ah... yeah, yeah I will. I'm sorry, Maya. We didn't want to worry you, but I guess we just worried you even more. I'll make sure Mia agrees too.

4. Why don't you stop cleaning the toilets and go through some of that paperwork or something?

I will! ...but, uh, I think it still looks a little off, so maybe one more scrub. I mean, what's one more day for paperwork? ...or two...

5. When are you taking me and Sis and Pearly out again?

Soon enough, I suspect. Did you have someplace in mind? Preferably not too expensive?

A Little Independant Investigation ((Locked to Mia-mun)) [Nov. 2nd, 2007|11:24 pm]
A bit of research brings up the name of Diamond in the Rough Jewellers, a place that apparently sacrificed respectability for the right to client privacy, regardless of why privacy was desired to begin with. Phoenix would've preferred a less seedy place to start this phase of his investigation, but the fact of the matter was that with the knowledge that the necklace had belonged to someone else came the fact that he doesn't know how the necklace left the hands of the original owner to begin with. Another bonus is that this particular jewelers is about as far from a place he knows he would normally hang around as possible; therefore, the likelihood of running into his own alternate in a place like this is low.

He's running the investigation on Mia's world, even though he'd looked up the name of the place on his own. He's sure there was a logic somewhere in why he trusted that a place would exist in both worlds, but not necessarily an object; in the end, he settles for the fact that it was sent to her by someone here; ergo, here was the most likely place to find out where it CAME from.

It doesn't quite prevent a shiver of unpleasantness as he enters, though. He's dressed about as non-lawyerly as he can get; no sense in tipping off the locals to the possibility of free money even though he's the LAST lawyer in town anybody would want to rip off. He walks up to the counter, looking over the display items and wondering exactly how many of them are here on the up and up.

He'll ring the bell if nobody shows up soon.

Journal Entry: August 7 [[PRIVATE]] [Aug. 7th, 2007|11:48 am]
I'm more convinced that ever now that Gant and Glening deliberately created the connections to Georik's world because they knew I would be unable to resist asking questions that would probably have been better off being left unasked. And, like a fool, I fell right into their expectations, and now I know more about Georik that possibly I should ever know.

Geutrink... an entire village of 800, destroyed in one night. I'm still not entirely sure how Georik, even in a fit of rage, could've accomplished that; even with a fire, there should've been more survivors. But I've resolved not to probe further into this for Georik's sake, and to a lesser extent for my own. It's already haunting my memory as is, just thinking about the rubble, the shards of bone I kicked up from the ashes.

And yet I can't really condemn Georik. He's been a good friend, helping me when I was injured, or when I needed medical advice. And I can understand the impulse to do whatever it takes to help a loved one, a friend... even if it means throwing your own morality to the winds. So I'm going to simply have to silence those questions. And, as I promised, I will never tell a soul what I heard in that room that night. He still has people to protect, after all.

But... maybe I'll visit that village one more time. I'm not exactly a devout Christian, but somehow I think a prayer for the dead will help me feel better about the whole thing.

RP POST: The Game Begins [Jul. 27th, 2007|12:23 am]
Not much time.

Phoenix knows it's only a matter of time before the cops catch on to his absence. Because of the manner of his escape, however, he figures he has a little extra time just because of the confusion, and how quickly he's able to get where he needs to go.

He can't stay in his apartment. It may be in the Nexus, but the door has a tendency to link straight to the apartment itself whenever others try to enter. (He established this when the superintendent came by once to report a few changes going on around the building. It was a good thing then, and probably still a good thing now.) He can't enter his apartment from his door either, since that puts him right into the main lounge. And because it's not his own personalized PIN, he can't go straight into the apartment either. So he teleports into the hallway connecting the siderooms to the Sanctuary.

Not much time. He's gotta get what he needs and split.

What. An awful. Week.

First Li and I get on the wrong side of a psychotic alternate. THEN Ivy gets some sort of ludicrous LOL that gives her all the symptoms of pregnancy in maybe a tenth of the normal time she SHOULD have it. NOW I've apparently got two "kids" running around that are some sort of clone hybrid of Edgeworth and I -- and to top it off, GANT may be behind this bullshit somehow, and using Ivy's LOL to set it off. I don't even know how the hell he could've done it. He's got no access to that sort of technology...

Gant. Christ. He's getting along way too well with that creepy boss of Georik's, and he's got a GODDAMN PIN. I don't think I could have a bigger feeling of foreboding if I TRIED. Nexus sucks.

RP POST: Status report [Jun. 21st, 2007|10:30 pm]
Phoenix hasn't had a chance to speak to Ivy for a while, and the little boy that popped up in the Nexus the other day has spooked him enough to call her up. He knows that, from all evidence, the "Ivy" the boy spoke of was the alternate, and yet he can't shake this feeling of dread that maybe Dracula DID get her, that she's not home, but currently stuck in his castle somewhere being forced to do things she doesn't want to...

Paranoid, yes. But Phoenix is feeling pretty paranoid right now. So he calls.

You know, between Dracula in the Sanctuary and whatever the hell it is that's affecting Ivy right now, I'm beginning to really not like vampires. Which kind of stinks, because most of the ones I've met are actually pretty nice. Still, it's really frustrating to suddenly be surrounded by them, you know?

Stupid Nexus.
